Bible Story Time

The other day I found some cheap books with accompanying CD-ROMs of 4 popular Bible stories (Noah's Ark, Jonah and the Whale, Samson & Delilah, and David & Goliath). I was excited to play the CDs and let my daughter read along (she loves to do this). To my disappointment while the pictures were okay, the music was really poor, the narration was painfully boring, and the sound quality was just plain weak. I thought then I would have to search the Internet for something better when I find the time.

After searching everywhere with little luck I decided to just make something up. This all basically started from my taking the scripture which contains the story and extracting out a narrative and dialog with some creative paraphrasing and added content to provide a more interesting snippet suitable to read to toddlers, pre-schooler, and grade-schoolers.

Stories From Genesis

God Made It

A long time ago . . . before anyone was ever born and before anything even existed, God decided to make some things. So he made the earth. At first, there was nothing on the earth. No people, no animals, no trees, no grass, no sky. There wasn't even any light. Everything was just dark and black. This was a long, long, long, long, long, long time ago.

Then, God said
"I need some light." So he made some light out of nothing. It was the first time there ever was light. "That's better." He said, "Now I can see. This is good light. I'm going to call it daytime. Tomorrow, I'll make something else."

The next day God Decided to make some space around the earth. Now He had light so he could see and space to keep things organized. He was ready to make some more things on the earth he just made.

"Tomorrow, I'll make some dirt." He said.
Next God decided to make some dirt on the earth. At first there wasn't anything on the ground except water. The whole earth was covered in water and there was no dry dirt because the dirt was all under the water and it was very very muddy.

"That's too messy," He Said. "I need to make some dry dirt."
So he pushed some of the water away so the dirt could get dry. That's how God made the oceans and lakes and rivers. He just pushed some of the water together so he could have dry land in one place and oceans and lakes and rivers in another place. Then God said,
"I like this dry dirt. Now I can make something in this dirt."
So he made some grass to grow and then some plants and flowers.

"There, that's better,"He said. "Now the earth has something more colorful than dirt."

He also made some trees. He made small trees and tall trees. Some of the trees grew fruit. Some just had leaves, but they were all beautiful trees.

"I like these plants and trees." He said. "Tomorrow, I'll make something else."
